Fred Arbogast set the standard for topwater fishing more then 50 years ago. Since then, anglers have relied on Jitterbugs and Hula Poppers to catch big bass, as well as other game fish. The Jitterbug is the gold standard for all night-time topwater lures and is well-documented as a big fish catcher.

In 1939, Arbogast created the original Jitterbug out of wood. He attached the cupped parts of two kitchen spoons to a wooden broomstick and added hooks along the bottom.
